Marriage and Weddings – Cultural, Aesthetic and Social Practices

Weddings, understood as central transition rituals that shape the individuality of each couple and at the same time reflect the prevailing gender relations, are the focus of this issue. The contributions trace a parallel development: On the one hand, diverse forms of relationships are increasingly replacing the bourgeois Western model of marriage, while on the other, traditional ideas of gender and couple relationships dominate the staging of the wedding and its preparatory phase.
