Perspectives of Gender Research in the Natural and Engineering Sciences

In the international context of Feminist Science & Technology Studies, the category of gender is researched both in the natural and technical sciences and in relation to these disciplines. The contributions to this special issue of the journal provide a snapshot of developments in the vibrant field of Feminist STS, including in German-language academia. What the texts have in common is that they intervene in the natural sciences, technical sciences and life sciences and their reception from a feminist perspective.
The contributions in the open section introduce the positional and intrinsic value of sound as an epistemic principle in feminist theory, discuss the pros and cons of safe spaces with a particular focus on educational spaces, raise the question of the possibilities and limits of the scientific inscription of the women's movement and feminist theory formation in the disciplinary canon, and reflect on the ethical, medical and philosophical implications of artificial amnion and placenta technology.
Three literature reviews on current gender studies round off the issue.
