Forced Migration – Asylum – Gender

GENDER issue 2/18

So far, German-speaking research on forced migration, asylum and refugee protection has paid little attention the gender dimensions. Only few studies have been conducted on the situation of female and homosexual refugees. Due to current trends, there is growing awareness in academia and politics of people being exposed to a variety of forms of gender-related discrimination and violence during flight and in refugee situations in transit or host countries worldwide. However, media and political discourses as well as parts of current research have focused primarily on sexual violence against women by young male refugees.
